Original Affirmation

Never give up on yourself.- Shaunelius Sterns

No matter what, always believe in yourself, and lift yourself up. Sometimes you have to be your own cheerleader. There’s nothing wrong with that. Know that you are special and unique in your own way. There is no one like you. Long as you know that God is for you nothing else matters. Until next time keep being your beautiful self.

Inspirational Story: Nandi’s Story- Grateful for Receiving

Nandi’s Story – Grateful for receiving

“There is always something to be grateful for.”

Gratitude is important because it is a moment when you acknowledge that you have received therefore you are worthy of receiving.
You can’t feel gratitude when you don’t feel valuable.

Throughout my day, I list 5 things that I am grateful for in my Gratitude app.
Sometimes I can easily list all five in one go and other times I struggle to come up with more than two.

I have made it a habit of mine to always give thanks to the universe no matter what the circumstances are.
For example, the other day I was helping my neighbor with her garage sale.
We only made one sale but I still was very grateful for that sale.
Gratitude is a way to attract endless blessings into your life. It has changed my perspective.
Without gratitude I would have focused on every single negative emotion I felt because of the unsuccessful sale but because of my perspective, I was pleased about the sale we had made.

I don’t feel a lack in my life because I know I have received, therefore I am worthy of receiving and therefore I will keep receiving.
I have been through an extremely tough time throughout these past two years.
Expressing gratitude for all the small things that have happened has helped me cope with the pain that these tough times had brought.
I live a life of abundance because I am able to find an appreciation for everything.
Be grateful for your friends, the water that you are drinking, your job, your family, your pets, the rain, and everything that makes you happy.
When you start practicing gratitude you will stop operating from a mindset of scarcity and you will start operating from one of abundance, which makes all the difference.

Practicing gratitude doesn’t have to be in the form of toxic positivity. Sometimes there is absolutely no silver lining and when there is none, you have to make it.
It’s a good thing to acknowledge all the misfortunes you have experienced. That doesn’t mean you should neglect all the good things that are happening.

No matter which way you look at it there is always something to be grateful for.

Devotional: 1 Thessalonians 5:17 Article

What is the first thing you do when you wake up? What is the last thing that you do as you go to bed? What occupies your thoughts, attention, and affections throughout each day? Is it communion with God? If not, why not?

Through the finished work of Christ on the cross we have access to, and the favor of, the only Being in the entire universe who has the wisdom we need for decisions, the strength we need for struggles, the love we need for relationships, the goodness we need for right living. When we pray, we enter into the presence of God and we commune with him from our hearts.

The question, then, is not why Paul gives us such a difficult commandment — to pray without ceasing — but why we would not avail ourselves constantly of the single greatest opportunity that Christ’s blood has now provided us. We should pray, not to appease some vague sense of guilt or obligation, but to enjoy the great pleasures, pursue the great holiness, and enter the great presence of the Lover of our souls.

Pray to him today. Pray to him tomorrow. Pray to him when you’re sad. Pray to him when you’re exhausted. Pray to him when you’re exuberant. Pray to him when you feel empty and when you feel full. Pray to him without ceasing.

Devotional: Isaiah 9:6 Article

This Old Testament prophecy describes our Savior Jesus Christ in beautiful terms. His name would be called Wonderful. He has always been wonderful for he is the Ancient of Days and it was by him that the world was created. He is God and he became a man. His virgin birth was wonderful. His life was wonderful. His death and resurrection were wonderful.

He is wonderful now. He is drawing men to him and he is interceding for his people. And he shall be wonderful. He is coming back some day and his appearance will be wonderful. Then the redeemed host will praise him forever as they stand in his presence and understand as never before that he is Wonderful!

When the day-to-day struggles of life are pressing us down and it seems there is nothing about our present circumstances that brings us joy, what a blessing to focus our attention on our wonderful Savior. Jesus called his disciples friends and when we remember that he is our wonderful friend, one that never leaves us or forsakes us, we can find reason to rejoice in the most difficult of circumstances.

Devotion: John 1:29 Article

John points men to Jesus as the Lamb — the Lamb who would be slain, who would die on the cross to put away sin. Many in that day desired a king, but the message of a dying Savior held no interest. Today men will respect a great teacher, or follow a leader who calls for social reform; but they will reject the gospel of Christ because they have no sense of needing atonement, of needing a substitute to die in their place and take away their sin.

Lessons concerning the Lamb are seen throughout the scriptures. When Abel offered a lamb which was an acceptable sacrifice we see a type of Christ, the Lamb who gave his life for sinners at Calvary. The Lamb was prophesied by Isaiah. The Lamb was identified by John the Baptist. The Lamb is seen glorified as the Apostle John writes in the book of Revelation.

May we on a daily basis follow the admonition to “behold the Lamb”. Behold him as he ministers to the poor and the needy. Behold him as he calms the storm and heals the sick. But most of all, behold him as the Lamb whose death on the cross successfully put away sin forever.

Sinners who look to the slain Lamb find a great hope. Those running the race find strength and encouragement as they look to Jesus and his completed work on the cross. And one day the struggle with sin will be over, all the battles will have been fought, the race will have been run and the redeemed will see him and praise him as the “worthy Lamb”, who was slain and has redeemed us to God by his blood (Revelation 7:9-10).

Day-7 Devotional: Tame My Tongue

Tame My Tongue

Words are powerful. As we begin to think about today’s topic: tame my tongue, we are reminded of our humanity. We all fall short of God’s glory and have areas in our lives and language that need to be refined. Our words have the power to dictate many things in our lives. God spoke the world into existence! Words can re-present who we are through our conversations and shift the atmosphere. Proverbs 18:21 teaches us that when our words are unsubmitted to God, our words can breed death. In James chapter 3, we learn that we move in the direction we speak. This chapter also shows that no man alone can tame the tongue. When we accept Jesus into our hearts, the Holy Spirit lives within us, and we are sanctified. We all need the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit to help us progress in our hearts so that our words reflect God’s love. Love, kindness, and self-control are fruits of the Spirit that empower us to walk in wisdom and discernment. As you continue to pray and fast on today’s topic, ask yourself, “is my speech edifying and bringing glory to God?” Imagine the impact you can have to re-present God for transformation in Christ by allowing the Holy Spirit to dictate your speech.

Application/ Reflection:

What is God speaking to you about taming your tongue?
What does it look like to invite the Holy Spirit into your language?
How can you re-present God to those around you through your speech?
Prayer:

Lord, I surrender my heart, mind, and mouth to you today. I repent for times when I fell short in how I spoke. I ask and receive your forgiveness and grace to turn away from my sin. I pray that you will increase my awareness of the power in my words. I pray for wisdom to steward my speech in a way that is pleasing to you. Holy Spirit, I need you. I pray that I speak life and encouragement today. I will declare words of love and kindness to encourage and edify myself and those around me. I love you. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
