A few days back I was talking to my best friend Rain and she was telling me about a problem she’s been facing for several years now – she doesn’t know how to find happiness alone.

She told me how it makes her rely on her boyfriend for happiness, and it’s really something that is troubling her. I’m sure that all of us have at some point in our lives been how Rain is.

We could’ve come out of a relationship that left us clueless about how to enjoy being alone. Or, we’re not with anyone and not sure how to be happy single, thinking that going into a relationship might solve the problem.

It’s a real struggle and I want you to know that it’s okay that you feel this way. There is nothing wrong with you.

Learning to be alone and happily so is not an innate skill in a lot of us, which is okay. We can learn and develop it over time.

Here are my tips for you on how you can find happiness alone:

Lower expectations
Reduce screen time
Discover interests
Understand yourself
Express gratitude
Be patient

It’s such a beautiful word, isn’t it? Optimism. And it’s a real treat to write about it as I’m currently reading Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl.

Optimism is often misunderstood, but even in the direst of circumstances, optimism can be life-saving. Even I have had some questions related to it in the past.

Whether it is toxic or unrealistic, making people live in their heads and not be there for others in their lives, or making them lose empathy. But optimism is not that. It is a tool that helps us not only strengthen ourselves but others too.

What is optimism?
In the most simple terms, optimism is believing in a good future. It is about believing that however the present circumstances may be, we will make it through.

The 10 Keys to Happiness for Life
What is the key to happiness? Well, I haven’t chosen an easy topic to talk about today, have I? To answer what is the key or the keys to happiness, we have to understand what happiness is first.

But there is really no objective definition of happiness, so I’ll define it by how I have understood what it means to other people and me. I wrote this in my other blog post about finding happiness within yourself:

“Happiness, in the simplest way, is the experience of enjoying the moment that you are in. This happiness is independent and natural, unforced and palpable, simple and powerful.”
So, even though it may be difficult to exactly tell what happiness is or what it means to all of us, one thing is clear: everyone wants to be happy.

While figuring out what are the keys to happiness, I watched quite a few insightful videos based on research that people did to understand how we can be happy, and what I understood was there may not be a single key to happiness…
