Day-2 Devotional: The Goodness of God

The Goodness of God

There is a song that brings me to tears every time I hear it. It’s called “Goodness of God” by Bethel Music. The lyrics of the chorus say “All my life You have been faithful. All my life You have been so, so good. With every breath that I am able. I’m gonna sing of the goodness of God.” As we learned yesterday, the dew of God is an example of His goodness and faithfulness towards us.

Growing up in church, there was a call and response that we would say. Someone would say aloud “God is good all the time” and the hearers would respond “All the time, God is good.” Although it was a cliche in the church, it’s a true statement. God is good. All of the time. And His dew reminds us of this.

In the Bible, we read in Lamentations 3:22-23 “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” God is so faithful to us, even when we are not faithful to Him. Although we doubt Him and His power, goodness, love, forgiveness, and ability, God continues to be faithful to us. The Bible is full of stories of His people turning against Him. How many times did the Israelites turn away from God and yet God continued to bless them? The entire gospel message revolves around the point that out of God’s great love for us, He sent His Son to die on the cross for us so that we can be in relationship with Him. He did this knowing that we would deny Him, that we would turn away from Him, that we would run from Him. And yet He gives everything for us – over and over again. New mercies daily. New provisions daily. New blessings daily. New sustenance daily. New dew EVERY morning. God is good.

Aren’t you thankful that God’s goodness isn’t dependent upon us? Thank God that His goodness isn’t based on our works. It’s not a reward that is given at the end of the day. He doesn’t have a checklist of the criteria that we are to meet during the day and then because of what we’ve done, He decides to bless us. He just gives us of His dew because He is just that good.

I would encourage you today to just take a moment to thank God for His goodness. Thank God for His faithfulness to you. Thank God that He is good all of the time. And all of the time, He is good. It’s not just a catchy cliche.

Day 1 Devotional: God Supplies Our Every Need

God Supplies Our Every Need

When I walk in the morning, it always amazes me that there is dew on the grass. It’s such a beautiful sight to see as it glistens in the morning sun. It brings me back to a conversation that I had with my dad several years ago when I was talking to him about how worried I was about my family’s finances. As we were driving in the car, he told me to look at the grass and as I looked over, he kindly said “The Lord supplies the grass with what it needs daily. How much more will He do for you?” I’ve held on to that truth for years now and it always brings me comfort when I look out onto the beautifully trimmed yards and see that dew – the perfect sustenance from our Lord.

Throughout scripture, we see that the dew of God represents His blessings. In Genesis 27:28, we see that when Isaac blesses Jacob, he says “May God give you of the dew of heaven and of the fatness of the earth and plenty of grain and wine.” We also see in scripture that the dew of God represents provision. In Numbers 11:9, it reads “When the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell with it.” The dew of heaven is a divine shower of blessings and provision that God gives to His people.

I have learned throughout adulthood that most of my adulting revolves around worrying. Do we have enough? Will we have enough? How are we going to get through this? I have spent so much of my time worrying about things that God has already told me He will take care of. We read in Philippians 4:19 “God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” and yet we spend the majority of our time worrying about the things that God has already blessed us with and has provided. He gives us the perfect sustenance for our day. He wakes us up in the morning and before we even get out of bed, the dew is already there. It has nothing to do with how much I worried or talked about it or negotiated with God. He already has an abundant supply and because of His grace and His great love for us, He lavishes His blessings upon us.

I would urge you, brothers and sisters, that when the worrying starts to creep in about whether or not you have enough, take a look outside onto the morning grass. Take a walk through it and feel the dew brush against your skin. And remember that God did that. He has riches in glory that are poured out daily upon you.

When Someone You Love Escapes Within Themselves

divasinspirational.poetry.blog/2023/01/20/when-someone-you-love-escapes-within-themselves/

This poem is about someone whose struggling with mental health issues. Never would anyone would have ever thought that this would happen to them.

Mental health , and the issues that it causes can be dangerous to the point that a person has to be protected from themselves and others.

It takes time, patience, and a caring heart to really understand what a person who struggles with mental health goes through. Who knows what triggers it? All anyone can do is pray for that person.

There isn’t a cure for mental health. Meds don’t always work. We can only hope that one day there will be a breakthrough for mental health issues to be resolved. Until then the only powerful thing that can help anyone is prayer.

I hope you enjoy the poem. Let me know in the comments. Have a great weekend.
