Devotional: Light It Up

Light It Up

Picture it: a big city with tall buildings, a hilltop village surrounded by vibrant farms, an oceanside community on top of a giant bluff. Cities are impressive on their own, but they’re undeniably radiant when they’re high upon a hill. And, they’re extra brilliant when they’re saturated with light.

Speaking to the crowds and His disciples in His famous Sermon on the Mount, Jesus told them: “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5:14 NLT

As He continued with His message, Jesus explained, like a city on a hill or a lamp on a stand, “Let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” (Matthew‬ ‭5:16‬) Jesus often used metaphors to get people thinking, so here are six things to consider as you reflect on that verse:

1. It’s all His. We are only a light when we have the light—His light—shining through us. Anything good is first given by Him, and this should empower us with humble confidence.

2. We’re chosen. We can’t do anything to earn the honor and responsibility of being a light-reflector. It’s a title that’s given to us, because it should be truth that’s self-evident.

3. Don’t hide it. God’s light inside of us cannot be hidden. When we’re truly following Him, it is obvious and undeniable. So we can boldly and unashamedly shine brightly for Him.

4. Light it up. While we don’t want the world around us to grow darker and darker, the Bible teaches that it’s inevitable. And yet—His light will shine best in the dark.

5. No more darkness. Christ followers are meant to be a beacon of light, illuminating God’s truth and shining His love. Whoever follows Jesus will never walk in darkness (John 8:12).

6. Compelled to worship. The purpose of carrying this light isn’t to draw attention to ourselves, but to compel others to worship God. The global Church is meant to be the brightest light the world has ever seen, and you get to be part of that city, the Church.

Though the sun may sink beneath the horizon and the world may become increasingly dark, the glory of such a city cannot be missed.

What about this message stands out to you? How can you be a city on a hilltop today?

My Life and How It Has Changed Since Last Year

My Life

Is your life today what you pictured a year ago?

No, it isn’t. My life is nothing like it was a year ago, and I didn’t picture it to be the way it is now. I have been truly blessed this year. Lots of amazing things has happened that I am proud of myself for. I wrote my first book, My Life: From the Back Burner, and I am working on my second book, My Life Moving Forward. I created a new website, I am learning how to make and publish eBooks, and lots of other things. The list goes on and on. I created a new web page for my food site. There is so much going on in my life that I cannot tell it all. One thing Ican say is that God is good all of the time. If it were not for Him, not any of this would be possible for me. I am confident in my writing now more than ever. I have learned to believe in myself. I have learned to stop being so hard on myself when I don’t understand something, or when I don’t know how to do something. I really have learned that depression doesn’t define me, and I am not my past self. I know that my life has good and bad days, but lately it has been a rollercoaster ride trying to get over this illness that came upon me all of a sudden. I am thankful to have God on my side. He has taken care of me through this whole ordeal, and He is still taking care of me. I am not fully well due to this cough, but I am making it in the name of Jesus. I know it is going to take some time for me to get my strength back fully, but with every passing day, I am becoming stronger. I am believing for complete healing because I am ready to go back to work. Hopefully the new coming year will be better. I say that every year, and it is always the same, but I am going to keep on praying that things will be better.

I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thank you for continuing to join me on my journey with Food for the Soul.

Morning Prayer: Luke: 5:27 and Message of Salvation

No, my life is not what I pictured it a year ago. Things in my life has changed since last year. This year I became a professional self-published writer. I have written and published my first book, and working on my second book. This year has been challenging, but I have learned lots of new things. I have learned to write better, and have more confidence in myself. I have learned to see things in a different light; to see the positive side of things. With that being said, I will now focus on the subject title: Morning Prayer: Luke 5:27.

Luke 5:27- And after these things He went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi (Matthew) sitting at the receipt of customs: and He (Jesus) said unto him Levi (Matthew), Follow Me.

Just as he got up straight way and followed Jesus, this is what we should do. Nothing is more important in this world than following Jesus. He is the Word of life. Where can we go and get wisdom other than from the Word of God. Jesus is the Living Word of God. When we feel like we are at the end of our rope, we can call on Jesus. When we feel like the whole world is crashing down around us, we can call on Jesus. Why would we want to stay in the place where we are when we know that following Jesus is the best thing we can do for our eternal life. Jesus can take us from a life of sin and give us a new life to live in Him because He lives in us. Not following Jesus is like standing at the end of a line and don’t know which way to turn, or which way to go.

Choose to follow Jesus by repenting of your sins, and accepting Him as your personal Lord and Savior today. This is an invitation to join the Family of God. When you do, it will be the best decision you can make in your life for your eternal life.

It doesn’t matter what you have done, or what you are doing this very minute, so, guess what, God already knows everything about you, there is nothing that can be hidden from Him, so, why not give your life to Him, He created you. He knew you before you were even woven together in your mother’s womb. God sent His only Son into this world to die for our sins. God loved this world so much, see John 3:16. (KJV)

It wasn’t the nails that kept Jesus on the cross, it was love. No one will ever love us the way that God does. You are loved sister, you are loved brother, Jesus loves us so much; our mind cannot fathom the love the love God has for us. The love He has for us is deeper than any ocean, higher than any mountain on this earth, it is deeper than the universe that He created, now that’s LOVE!

Life is too short to not have Jesus in your life. Look at what’s going on around us every day. Look at the lives being lost due to this virus that has been here forever now. It isn’t going anywhere simply because God’s instructions are not being followed according to His Word in 2 Chronicles 7:14, but I will not get into that right now, that is for another day. Right now, I am focusing on following Jesus and leaving everything behind just as the disciples did when Jesus called the 12. Jesus knew that Judas was a devil, He knew that Judas was the one going to betray Him, just as He knew that Peter was going to deny Him three times, and just as He knew that Thomas was going to doubt what He said to them about Him being raised on the third day. So, we are not any different than they were. We all have our doubts at times when things in our life start going wrong, but we have to stop and examine ourselves and remember what Jesus told us in His Word before He was taken back into heaven.

Matthew 9:9-And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the *receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, FOLLOW ME. And he arose, and followed HIM (Jesus).

(14) The call of Matthew and the banquet in Matthew’s house (cf. Mark 2:14-20)

Now, let’s see what Mark 2:13-14 tells us. And he went forth again by the sea side; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them. And as He passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, FOLLOW ME. And he arose and followed Him (JESUS).

Mark 2:14 – The Receipt of Custom: The place where taxes were paid. Matthew was employed as a tax collector for the Roman government (see also Matthew 9:9-12; Luke 5:27-32).

So, Matthew left his job and followed Jesus. He did not complain about it, or question Jesus about why He wanted him to follow Him. He did not make any excuses about why he could not follow Jesus, and he did not know what the next day was going to bring, but he got up and followed Jesus not wavering in his decision to do so. If Jesus came to us right now and asked us to leave everything and follow Him, would we be ready to do it? Would we have excuses as to why we couldn’t? This is something we all must think about. We do not know what tomorrow will bring, but we do know this, we know that Jesus is for us and not against us. We know that He wants what’s best for us, and our life. We know that He did what He came here to do so we could have salvation and not die in our sins.

Don’t give up on God because He will never give up on you. He will never leave you nor forsake you. He will be with us all even until the end of the age.

Jesus is the only name by which we can be saved. Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. – Acts 4:12.

Whoever calls on Jesus will be saved. Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. -Acts 2:21.

Sisters and brothers, God wants all of His children to be saved. He doesn’t want any of us to perish. The day of judgement is coming. We all are going to have to stand before the Lord and give an account of everything we have said and done on this earth. Accept Jesus today. Do you want to hear Him say, “Depart from Me, I never knew you, and be cast into outer darkness where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth? Think about your eternal soul. Do you even care where your soul will reside for all eternity? The decision is yours to make. Choose life eternal, and that eternal life is in Jesus Christ. Choose this day who you will serve, because as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord to the Glory of God, who was and is and is to come. As always, this was said in love, not to hurt anyone, but to open your eyes up to the reality of Jesus Christ our soon coming King. God bless you all, stay safe, and thank you for joining me on my journey with Food for the Soul.
