This message is according to Matthew 14:25-31. I am studying this passage of Scripture because we have all been on the sea of doubt in our life. We all want answers, but doubt pops up and clouds our mind causing us not to want to believe.
As Peter and the other disciples are in the boat with the sea raging around them, Jesus is walking on the water in the storm that they are facing. Fear has gripped them so that they began to think they are going to perish in the storm.
They see a shadow in the distance; they think it is a ghost, but Jesus tells them that it is Him and for them not to be afraid. Peter, on the other hand, say if it is You, Jesus, bid me to come, so Jesus tells him to come.
Peter steps out of the boat onto the water to walk to Jesus. He made a few steps and began to focus on the storm instead of keeping his focus on Jesus; at that point he began to sink. Jesus pulls him out of the water. Jesus say, “O thou of little faith, wherefore dist thou doubt? He also tells them to be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
HOW WE SHOULD BE AND NOT BE
When we face trials and storms in our life, we don’t know what to think, or what to do in that moment. We try to figure out what to do on our own. We get advice from those we think can help us. We read books on the subject to try to fix the trial we are facing, and the storm we are going through.
The disciples were in a terrible storm, but because of their lack of faith they did not realize that they had the master problem solver with them. Their faith was not strong enough for them to believe. They did not know that Jesus was the Son of God until He calmed the storm that was raging around them.
Verse 32: And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased. Verse 33: Then they that were in the ship came and worshiped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.
Just like us, we sometimes forget that Jesus is the Son of God with all power in His hands in heaven and on earth. We forget that He can and will calm the storms in our life, and all of the trials we face from day to day. We should be believing and not unbelieving. Our faith should be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. We should have faith as the grain of a mustard seed.
We are never alone when we are facing uncertain circumstances. He will fix whatever it is we are going through. All we just have to do is call on Him in faith, and when we do that, we can know for certain He hears our every plea for help. He may not come when we want Him, but He is always on time.
We will never have to worry about our God turning His back on His children. It is wonderful to know we are never alone. Just as the disciples finally realized who was with them; we should realize that too. Doubt causes us to forget who we really have with us, and living inside of us. We have the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ living inside of us. He is with us no matter where we go. No matter what. We must always remember that. With that being said, I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday. Thank you for following along with me on my journey that is Food for the Soul. Stay blessed. ©2021
