In the story of Cain and Abel, we know that Cain was jealous of his brother Abel because God accepted Abels’s gifts and not his. That made Cain very mad. We can see that Abel gave God his best, and Cain didn’t give God his best. In Cain’s eyes, he felt that God should have accepted his gifts as well, but when He gave God something it was not his very best. Abel gave God his very best.
I can see how jealous Cain became, I can also see his sadness, and the pain that he felt in his heart of not being accepted. I can see how happy Abel was when his gift was accepted, I can see him rejoicing in the Lord.
God looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering He did not look with favor.Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.
I know sometimes that there are others that have things that we wish we had, but that does not gives us the right to become jealous because we do not have what they have. We do not know what they had to go through to get what they have. We should be glad for someone when they are doing good, or have something that we do not have. We do not have to want what others have, because what God has for us is for us, and what God has for them is for them. Yes, it is wrong for someone to do wrong and still want to be blessed by God. When we think about it, God blesses us all everyday with our lives. His mercies are new every morning, but in the case of Cain, he let his jealousy cause him to do something that he will regret for the rest of his life.
God asked Cain why was he angry, and why was his face downcast. God told him that if he does what is right, will he not be accepted. God also told Cain that if he do not do what is right, sin is crouching at his door, and that it desires to have him; that he must rule over it.
Anyone in their right mind would listen to God, because He can see the things that we cannot see. He never slumbers or sleep. He is ever watching over His creation. He knows what is best for us, lets see if Cain is going to listen to God or not.
As good as Cain feels, he asks his brother to go to the fields with him; Abel went, but when they reached the field, Cain attacked his brother and killed him.
See jealousy of that magnitude will make a person do anything that they normally would not do. Cain’s jealousy went very deep. He could not stand to see his brother being favored by God. He wanted what his brother had so bad that it caused him to kill his brother. All Cain had to do was do right just as the Lord said.
After Cain had killed Abel, God asked Cain where his brother was, and Cain lied to God telling Him that he did not know. Now, I do not know why Cain would lie to God when he should have known that God already knew that he had killed Abel. He was wrong for lieing to God in the first place, all he had to do was tell the truth. He has the nerve to ask God,”Am I my brother’s keeper!”
God asked Cain what did he do. He told him to listen, becasue Abel’s blood was crying out to Him from the ground. When someone is killed, God hears their blood as it leaves their body pouring out on the ground crying. Life is a precious gift, and once it is taken it cannot be given back; that person is gone forever unless God breathes life back into the body so that person can live again. No one has the right to take a person’s life, that’s God’s business. Everyone has a right to live a full life. It is especially wrong to kill someone in cold blood. That is what Cain did to his own flesh and blood, killed him in cold blood because he was jealous of his brother.
God told Cain that when he work the ground, it would no longer yield crops for him, and that he would be a restless wonderer on the earth. Cain told the Lord that his punishment was more than he could bear. Cain told the Lord that today He was driving him out of the land, and he would be hidden from His presence; and that he would be a restless wonderer on the earth, and whoever finds him will kill him.
Cain must have felt very bad for what he had done to his brother because he was worried about someone killing him. He must have been very frightened knowing that he was not going to be able to be in the presence of God anymore; that is as terrible way to live. Living without God is death in itself.
There are times in our lives when we dift away from God because we want to go our own way, do our own things. We often forget that God will be waiting for our return home to him. He never stops waiting for us. His arms are always open wide to receive us again.
The Lord told Cain “Not so”, that anyone who kills him will suffer vengeance seven times over. God then put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him. Cain went out from the pesence of the Lord and lived in the land of Nod, East of Eden.
We being children of the Most High God, we are all marked with the blood of Christ. We do not have to worry about not knowing who we are, or whose we are, or where we will go when we leave this earth. Heaven is our home. We are just passing through this land on our way to a better place where there is real love, real peace, and real happiness, a land flowing with milk and honey. We serve a God that more than enough. He will never leave us nor forsake us. The love that He has for us will never waver. It doesn’t matter what we have, or have not done in our lives, He will always love us.
Let us not die spiritually, but die to our flesh. Our flesh wants things of the world, but our spirit wants things that are of God. We know that one day this world is going to pass away, but the Word of God will never pass away, it will stand forever.
If you have not asked Jesus to come into your heart to be your Lord and Savior, do so, because tomorrow isn’t promised to anyone. It will be the best decision you will ever make in your life. He is waiting to hear from you, He loves you very much. All praises be to God and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who was and is and is to come, Amen.
