There are days and monents that we look at our children and wish they could stay little forever, and there are times that we look at our children and wish they were already grown and gone, because as they are growing up, they are hell on wheels.
Yes, we love them to pieces, change their diapers, teach them to talk, walk and run, how to dress, and clean themselves as they are learning about the world around them. We register them for school and the rest is history.
They never grow tired of asking their parents to do things for them. From the first time they say the words,”mom, and dad”, it is on forever. No matter what kind of problem they are facing in their lives, they will always come to their parents to fix the problem.
Children never really understand what we as parents go through while carrying them full term, giving birth, and raising them after they have come into the world. I believe that sometimes they think that we are their playmates…although we are the first to play with them.
We hear their first cries, their first laughs, their first belchs, their first everything. They never think or wonder about that. They may think that it should be this way. There’s going to come a time when mom and dad isn’t going to be there; they are going to have to figure things out for themselves. They are going to make their own decisions and learn from their own mistakes.
Some children never stop being a child even when they are grown. They just don’t ever grow up in their mind. They always think and act like a child until one day reality steps in and life happens.
I know that we all still have childlike tendecies, but there is a line drawn in the sand and we know how far to go. Sometimes we talk about our childhood and the things that we would do…talking about all of the trouble we used to get into. We sit and laugh about that now. Growing up wasn’t easy…there were a lot of days I wished I was grown. Now that I am grown, I feel like I have always been grown. I feel like my childhood flew by.
Children today have it easy when it comes to doing things, such as looking up information for reports, what words mean, who people are and other stuff, everything is right at their fingertips. We had to go to the library and check out books to get the information just to do a report, or anything else.
Nevertheless we love them, and want them to have the best of everything; but no, we must not spoil them…it’s hard not to though. They are our pride and joy; the fruit of our womb, the apples of our eyes, our never ending loves, but yet and still they are hell on wheels.
